Pushing Spring Once Again

Friends,

We are busy “pushing spring” here in Chicago. I came up with this expression a few years back and am almost finished writing a song about it. “Pushing spring” refers to the deep desire among Chicagoans for the arrival of warmer, gentler weather and our efforts to WILL this to happen. Here’s how we do it: T-shirts under our down jackets; no more hats and gloves, no matter how cold it gets; crocus sightings under the snow; iced drinks instead of steaming cups of coffee; the return of bikers regardless of icy roads and sidewalks; silk scarves instead of woolen ones. There are many other efforts in this regard as we are a very determined (and slightly weary) group.

BIG NEWS! I am back in the studio working with my longtime engineer and friend Victor Sanders of Lakeside Media. We’ve already got a handful of original tunes finished with many more to go. In addition to my original songs, you’ll also hear Peter and Ellen Allard’s beautiful “Building a Better World,” a song many of you have asked about after hearing it in concert. I’m shooting for a fall 2011 release with lots of CD release concerts in the area.

Hats off to the brave men and women who have been making international headline news in Wisconsin and Indiana. Your voices have been heard by millions. I suggested to my husband Jay, a devout union man and public high school English teacher, that he create a “Thanks, Madison!” t-shirt for the masses in our own struggling state, regardless of the immediate outcome in Wisconsin. Here’s to peaceful and powerful protests everywhere! (You SHALL overcome!)

At home, we are preparing to celebrate my daughters this spring as they become graduates, Hope from college and Hannah from high school. There’s a seismic shift about to happen in our household, and I’m thinking of accepting less day-to-day teaching jobs and going back to more concert work and touring to lighten my heart. To that end, consider booking a Susan Salidor concert in your neighborhood this summer or during the 2011-2012 school year. Contact me at ssalidor@aol.com or give me a call at 773-271-5568. Operators are standing by to assist you in all of your musical needs! (But don’t be surprised if I answer your call…)

My graphic guru and neighbor Barry Kafka is working on making this website more entertaining for visitors. Look for an updated picture gallery and news about the new CD in the near future. And don’t forget to check out our homemade videos on YouTube. Just google my name and have a look. More and more children are saying they have me on their computer in addition to having me their car.

Here’s to lifting our voices together in song in the near future!
